L'instrument de mesure de rétroréflexion des lignes de marquage est un appareil portable de mesure sur site, doté d'un trajet optique ouvert, permettant de mesurer le coefficient de luminance par rétroréflexion des lignes de marquage. Unité : mcd·m⁻²·lx⁻¹. Ses principales caractéristiques sont les suivantes : simulation d'un véhicule roulant de nuit, les phares éclairant les marquages (en matériau rétroréfléchissant) sur la chaussée, et mesure de la luminosité perçue par le conducteur dans la cabine après réflexion. Le paramètre mesuré est le coefficient de luminance par rétroréflexion nocturne, ou valeur RL.
